From the Pastor: Creation and Foundations

The video which we will see this morning ("The Genesis Solution") has to do with foundations, whether for ethical standards, social institutions, or our hope for the world to come.

When asked a question about marriage and divorce (Mark 19:2-10), Jesus did not stop to quibble about what Moses may or may not have meant (in Deutoronomy 24:1-4); He went straight back to creation - what was "in the beginning". When dealing with the issue of a woman's role in the official teaching office in the church Paul appeals directly to creation (1 Timothy 2:12-13). Finally, when the Hebrews' writer wants to expound the believer's heavenly rest he starts with creation and God's rest at the foundation of the world (Hebrews 4:3-4). Similarly, in Revelation 22 the world to come is described in terms of the original Paradise. Thus creation lies at the foundation of everything the Christian holds sacred.

However, as belief in creation has declined even in many churches to the pressure of evolutionary theory, it is not to be wondered that the sanctity of marriage, respect for authority, loss of certainty for the future, to name a few, have taken a nose-dive in the last generation. The Creation Science movement has, I believe, been raised up by God to reassert this foundational truth and to demonstrate its factual basis.
