Australia's Royal Anthem
- God Save The Queen -

Left EndMiddleRight End

"God Save The Queen" (The Royal Anthem of Australia) was composed by Henry Carey and first sung by him in 1740.

"God Save The Queen" is the National Anthem of England. As Australia is a Commonwealth country, with the Queen as its Monarch, "God Save The Queen" was also Australia's original National Anthem. However it was replaced, as the National Anthem, by "Advance Australia Fair", and was delegated the status of "Royal Anthem".

It is still sung in Australia in the presence of members of the Royal Family and on formal occassions in many institutions of dignity and tradition.

God save our gracious Queen
long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
happy and glorious,
long to reign over us:
God save the Queen!

O Lord our God arise,
Strike down her enemies,
And make them fall:
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On thee our hopes we fix:
God save us all!

Thy choicest gifts in store
on her be pleased to pour;
long may she reign;
may she defend our laws,
and ever give us cause
to sing with heart and voice
"God save the Queen!"
